Art Complex by Yohji Yamamoto “ A Beauty Looking Back”
Yohji Yamamoto, the fashion designer who has been leading world fashion scene with his innovative design created by his rebellious spirit against stereotype in fashion over 40 years since he started his career in 1972, will showcase his art installation “A Beauty Looking Back” at the ISETAN Shinjuku Store.
Yohji Yamamoto’s fashion has been highly acclaimed in the world of art. In recent years, two exhibitions were realized at the Victoria & Albert Museum (UK) in 2011 and the Holon Design Museum (Israel) in 2012 and they were well-received in the world.
The theme of this installation is “A Beauty Looking Back”.
The designer portrayed “Back View of Women” that he has been pursuing for a long time by means of painting. The depiction of Japanese women with modesty suggests the masterpiece of “Mikaeri Bijin (Beauty Looking Back)” by the ukiyo-e artist Moronobu Hishikawa This art installation will be the world’s first presentation.
Meanwhile, a wide variety of contemporary art goods created by Yohji Yamamoto in collaboration with Modern Comics (Manga) and Joshibi University of Art and Design will be released. Art Complex by Yohji Yamamoto A Beauty Looking Back Contemporary Art Goods
１. A Beauty Looking Back Special Edition Herb Water
The inspiration of the HerbWater comes from “Kolonya” (Note＊１) when Yohji Yamamoto find it during his travel all over the world in his 20s. He sensed the femininity in the look of women spraying Kolonya on their skin and the scent in North Africa, Morocco, and Tunisia. That reminded him of the beauty of Japanese women’s modesty.
In collaboration with Find News Co., LTD (Note＊2), soft drinks, Japanese version of “Kolonya” to depict beauty of modesty, will be released this time.
4 different tastes are available: Lemongrass, Mint, Rosehip, Rosemary

Note ＊1 Kolonya：Turkish people often use Kolonya (Turkish “cologne”). It is for cleanliness and change as well. It is sprinkled generously over the guests' body to refresh them.

2. A Beauty Looking Back Special Edition Flower Bottle Herb Water

It is one of a kind bottle painted by hand with various colors based on the theme of “Flower”.
“Herb Water” to enhance your inner beauty comes with 6 different kinds of small and large bottles.
Each has different tastes from flower to flower painted on the bottles. Please enjoy the transparency of the glass and the world of art produced by refraction of light.
These art goods collaborated with Joshibi University of Art and Design that Yohji Yamamoto served as a guest professor.

３. Manga (Cartoon) Collaboration Series
The Manga (Cartoon) inspired by little girls turned into the Art Complex’s special goods.
The Cartoon depicted in the classic Rubik’s Cube and the tote bag is Japan’s world class art.

４. Drawing Prints
The Yohji Yamamoto’s fashion has been highly acclaimed in the world of art. In recent years, two exhibitions were realized at the Victoria & albert Museum (UK) in 2011 and the Holon Design Museum (Israel) in 2012.
The drawings showcased during the Art Exhibition at the Yohji Yamamoto Aoyama Store in 2012 will be commercialized specially for this event.
The postcards and handkerchiefs with printed drawings depicted by beauty of Japanese women’s modesty will be available at “the Stage”.
